Changes to the Eight Circles
Voodoo System
The Voodoo System requires that a character have 100 skill in Magery and Spiritspeak. Voodoo is not an alternative to
traditional Magery in pvp combat. However, the practitioner of Voodoo has an interesting and effective arsenal at his disposal
nonetheless. The system is unique in that all of its powers are dependent upon the aforementioned skills as well as custom
material components. And of course, the potential for roleplay is enormous with this system.
Voodoo Robes are the cornerstone of this dark art. They are introduced as random drops on Vampire mobs.
One of three styles may drop; Voodoo Robes, Voodoo Robes of the Acolyte, and Voodoo Robes of the Warlock. Each level of robe
adds progressively better bonuses to your Spiritspeak skill. These higher levels of SS (105, 110, and 120) are required to make
use of some of the more powerful items/spells. And if not requisite, having higher skill at times allows for better attributes
such as spell range, power, etc.
As noted earlier, all Voodoo powers have material requisites. These components are found on a variety of monsters custom to
NUO. To list a few;
- Black Dragon monster has random chance of dropping Black Dragon Heart used in Channeling Blight spell.
- Ophidian Lords drop Lethal Crystals. When someone versed in Voodoo magic dbl-clicks a Lethal Crystal, they get a Lethal
Token. These tokens may then be dbl-clicked by an end-user who wishes to create a Lethal Blade, provided they also have 10 iron
ingots in their backpack. Either a Lethal Kryss or Lethal Katana will be produced, depending on which skill the end-user has
trained.
- Large Ghoul has a random chance to drop Internal Organs.
Another staple of the practitioner of Voodoo is the Channeling spell. Channeling spells
are powerful magics that require the
cooperation of more than one wizard to cast successfully. Voodoo Channeling spells require a minimum of 110 Spirit Speak
to cast. Some of these spells are listed here:
- Summon Iron Golem - Requires four other players with GM Magery and Gravedust in their
backpacks within one tile of the Caster. The Caster must have minimum 110 SpiritSpeak, as well as a Iron Golem scroll, 10 Iron
Ingots and a 10 Pig Iron in their backpack. The Golem does enormous damage to monsters, often killing in one hit and
can only be summoned at a Champion Altar. Players take much less damage and can slay a Golem in a few strokes.
- Blight - requires two other players with GM Magery and
Nox Crystal in their backpacks within one tile of the Caster. The
Caster must have minimum 110 SpiritSpeak, as well as a Blight scroll and a Black Dragon Heart in their backpack. The results
of the Blight Spell are catastrophic on all enemies in the area. Blight Scrolls are dropped randomly on Pit Fiends.
- Portal - requires two other GM mages equipped with Bone. Caster must have Internal Organs in his pack. Works much
like the Gate Travel spell of Ultima Online.
- Summon Shadow Stalker - requires three other GM mages equipped
with Gravedust. Caster must have a Putrid Gland in his pack. Only a Warlock with 120 Spiritspeak is able to summon a Shadow Stalker, an invisible Bounty Hunter that only becomes semi-visible as he damages his target.
No one but the target can damage the Stalker. The Stalker has a significant perception range. The Stalker can only be
targeted to one victim. All of the above make a Shadow Stalker a most deadly adversary. It will return to the Ethereal Void
from whence it came after a short time, successful or not. The Scroll can be found on Pit Fiends.
- Transmute - requires three other GM mages equipped with Internal Organs. Caster must have 1 Silverlode
in his pack. Allows caster to transmute iron ingots into Silverlode. 110 SS skill gives 1 Silverlode/7
iron.
120 SS skill gives 1 Silverlode/4 iron. A maximum of 100 Silverlode ingots can be created via Transmute so be sure not
to have more iron in your backpack than you need or it will be wasted!
There are also a variety of Voodoo weapons and items available that only a practitioner may employ. Some of these are:
- Deathsword - This Knife turns into a powerful sword when double-clicked. Has
set number of uses. Dropped on Pit Fiend randomly.
- Voodoo Doll - allows poisoning, healing, curing, and paralysis of the victim
when potions are applied to Voodoo Pins which
in turn are applied to a doll. The Voodooo doll must have a player character's severed head applied to it to get a Blooded
Doll. The Blooded Doll must be prepped by a practitioner on a heat source such as a forge. Then a potion may be aplied to the
Voodoo Pin(s) and the Pin(s) applied to the doll. The player character whose head was applied to the doll will succumb to
the power of the doll from great distances.
- Necrostaff - random drop on Vampires and Pit Fiends. Used by practitioners to raise the dead to fight for you.
- Smokebomb - used to create a smokescreen which allows a practitioner to "hide".
- Putrid Sacs - dropped by Pit Fiends. When set on the ground and double clicked by a practitioner of Voodoo, it sets
off a noxious cloud that poisons all mobiles in the area.
- Putrid Glands - dropped by Wargs and Terrathan Matriarchs. When set on the ground and double clicked by a practitioner of
Voodoo, it sets off a noxious cloud that poisons all non-player mobiles in the area.
